Artist Alyse Bernstein invited me to be part of a demo she As going to print with her intern Anna.
I’ve had a chance to experiment with Gum Arabic as a drawing ink. It was a very interesting experience making four drawings. It’s a substance that requires drawing quickly. It’s important to finish drawing before the gum dries so the whole drawing can be seen.
The results are based on the suspension of the gum in water and how it pools and disperses. I’m looking forward to the results.
Cutting a template for four small drawings I’m making on a metal plate for Alyse Bernstein to print. Being precise is good. Yet another experimental adventure. I have no idea what will happen but this set of four small drawings will reveal what my techniques will do in this environment.
This template helps me leave the correct space around the drawings to work on the press. It also helps me keep fingermarks and hand oils from marking the plate.
Sharing a couple of my 4 x 4 inch drawings made on paper cut from scraps in the studio. Each is an informative new discovery. Some have layers, some have none. Thinking about how if I wanted to I could show them all at one time. They are small and wouldn't be atted or framed. Well, that's for another day. Now it's all about making them.
This is an image of two of my most recent drawings. You can follow me on flickr to see more.
A selection of drawings in my 365.2019 project.
It's great to be going through my drawers and flat files to find scraps of unused paper to make these drawings. There are plenty more coming. Enjoy this small grouping. Each drawing is a wnderful discovery.
Now it's time to cut down some more 4 x 4 inch squares.
Our closing party is coming up.
Artists Stella Untalan and Robert McNellis present work that reveals and revels in overlapping. They were startled by the parallel nature of the work, resulting from completely different media and processes.

I had a whole plan for a 365 project. It went to hell.
It seems that these small drawings have started to pour out. So I ave changed the project to small drawings on 4 x 4 inch squares of scrap paper bits tht ave been lying iin my flat files for soe time. They are happy to be used.
I've also pulled out pens, pencils, crayons, and markers. Some little nubs of things too.
I'm learning something new each time I make a new drawing. I'm interested in making some larger pieces that use the marks and process I've used for the smaller pieces.
Freezing temps mean keep drawing were it is warm. I've been getting my drawing muscles worked out. I'm having to work with the gear in my drawing travel bag; that's a challenge. I've been drawing with acrylic markers and ink. Now I'm drawing with watercolor and pencils.
Testing these materials for my 365 project. Join my mailing list to get updates by email.
The new year has brought me back to drawing with pencils again. It has started with my small travel kit that I often use at coffee shops and cafes.
The small drawings currently combine paint markers and pencils. These are experiments for what will be larger drawings in the near future.
i’m happy to be drawing again. It was difficult to do much in November and December.
I've begun working on a plan for my 365/2019
I'll begin making drawings in February. This is my sketchbook where I started setting the perameters.
I expect to create my grids this weekend so I can test some of te systems I'll ned to keep the drawings centered and keep to the process.
Looking forward to sharing more as soon as I cam.
