Wanting to make the fewest marks.
Like dragging a vine charcoal across a newsprint pad.

Turning my finger this way and that twirling.

Working black and white. That's it.

Got a little tuned up on the energy in this one.

Took a little longer working on the drawing. Did some erasing this time. Just a little. I'm really into the tool I made with the multiple lines sorta like a comb. I'm thinking about what kind of tool I can make that mark on paper in my studio. I want a tool to add to my box — so I can call on it anytime.

Draw. Simple. Quick. Don't think. Repeat. #imakeart

Making a drawing a day is like running a gaunlet at times. If you put your head down and cover your head you'll make it through. That's what it felt like when I was making this drawing. Making open marks, making them fast. Running as quickly as I could.

Some playful repetition and transparency.

I really haven't made these marks in my works on paper. They are new in these experiments. I have been experimenting with these marks in a number of these iPhone drawings. Testing the feeling of the marks and techniques I would like to try to replicate in larger drawings with big drawing implements.

This one is very earthy feeling.

I may make some efforts in this direction in the studio soon.

I moved away from some of the more dense drawings to pay attention to a simpler conversation with the tension of positive and negative space.

Always moving back from more to less — less to more.

Playing with making tools for specific marks again. This one is a little aimless but it's really about letting the marks dance across the space. Rediscovering transparency too.

Space-like. Constellations, space dust.

Surprise.

This time I actually used a paint fill after I had drawn some pencil marks. That created some surprising white areas. I decided to keep them and make a couple additional graphite-like marks.

I'm thinking of exploring these more in the iPhone drawings but at the same time I'm looking for ways I could create these kind of artifacts in my analog drawings.

It's also good to just leave the drawing alone.
