thinking out loud

Starting a new sketchbook. I always make some marks on the cover. This is a testing ground for some marks for larger drawings. It's pretty exciting drawing with some new watercolor markers.

I love defining something about what is happening in the sketchbook on the covers.

I have several large panels that I am interested in making drawings with multiple panels.

Reflecting on my most recent exhibition of drawings.

When I take my drawings out of the studio and into the world they speak with another voice.

These drawings were all made at the end of 2016 through 2017. Most of my work in the past couple years has been monochromatic. This past 14 months I've imersed myself in vibrant colors. I really love seeing this burst of color.

We all love crayons, yes?

I have been thinking about making use of some materials I haven’t used in quite a while. First thing that came to mind was crayons. I picked up one of my graph paper books and my crayon tin and started filling boxes.

All of this is an exercise to warm up to some new marks and process that will drive new drawings.

A one day POST for 2017 was crazy.

More visitors came through in one day than two days in previous years. It was exhausting and it wasn’t really a buying crowd.

Each year I fail to deal with some detail. This year it was putting out my iPad to get folks to sign the mailing list. Oh well.

I’m hoping to enjoy the clean organized studio this weekend.

I may do a small studio sale before the holidays. Please join my mailing list if you haven’t already.

I've begun a new series that is more calligraphic. I'm working with several patterns.

Here's a detail of one. This sketch was made with my friends Montana Markers. The markers allow me to make large marks and thin with standard and mixed colors.

I'm very keen on making more.

But first back to working on a commission.

Drawing. Doing some visable thinking. I haven't been getting to the studio the past few days. That doesn't mean that I'm not thinking about or making art. I've been working on three ideas for Seeing Red presented by Heavy Bubble at ARTSPACE 1241

Three of my Egyptian Waters drawings. Looking at some minor moisture damage. I have to test a blank sheet to see if I can make a repair. I want to get these framed for an upcoming show. Only a little wrinkle.

A gift to me. Sad that my favorite art supply store is gone.

For my most recent exchibition I created a series of drawings that are driven not by results but by process. Each of these drawings is made using the same ink, the same pen, the same unrelenting process. The results reveal themselves to be reminders of her meandering walks and joyful runs in the woods. The straight trunks making blurred lines that suggest motion, space, and time — a DNA image of being in the woods.
